Hawk PowerSports R 5L Waterless Cooling Fluid is specially formulated for street bikes, sport bikes, and race bikes. It is designed for motorcycle engines primarily made of aluminum, with steel and copper components, and is particularly suited to the high thermal stresses encountered in high-performance engines.

Hawk PowerSports R eliminates water from the cooling system and the associated issues: localized boiling, vapor formation, high pressure, corrosion, and cavitation. With a boiling point above 180°C and a freezing point below -40°C, it is a solution particularly well-suited for motorcycles used intensively on both the road and the track.

PowerSports R is Hawk’s formulation designed for street and racing motorcycles. For motocross, trial, enduro motorcycles, and ATVs, Hawk offers another specific formulation: PowerSports.

Important: Properly prepare the system with Prep Fluid

It is essential to prepare the cooling system before switching to Hawk waterless cooling fluid if the motorcycle currently contains or has previously contained a water-based cooling fluid. Simply draining the system may leave residual water in the engine, radiator, hoses, and various parts of the cooling system.

The conversion must therefore be properly carried out beforehand using the 5L Prep Fluid. This fluid removes residual water before the final fill with Hawk PowerSports R waterless cooling fluid.

After conversion, Hawk recommends that the residual water content be ideally 3% or less. This value can be checked using a refractometer. Proper preparation is essential to fully benefit from the advantages of water-free coolant, particularly on a heavily used sport or racing motorcycle.

For which motorcycles should Hawk PowerSports R be used?

Hawk PowerSports R is specifically designed for street bikes and racing bikes. It is suitable for engines primarily made of aluminum that also incorporate steel and copper components.

It is particularly well-suited for sport bikes, superbikes, modified bikes, track bikes, and racing machines, but can also be used on a compatible street bike when you want to enjoy the benefits of a waterless cooling system.

Do not confuse PowerSports R with PowerSports. Hawk designs PowerSports R for street and racing motorcycles, while PowerSports is specifically geared toward motocross, trial, enduro, and ATVs.

Why switch a motorcycle to a waterless cooling fluid system?

Cooling is a particularly important factor in a high-performance motorcycle. The engine is compact, delivers high power relative to its cubic capacity, and can operate at high RPMs. On the track or during spirited riding, thermal stresses can become particularly high.

With a standard cooling fluid, the water in the system can boil locally in the hottest areas of the engine. The formation of steam then significantly reduces heat transfer to the metal surfaces and can cause localized hot spots.

With a boiling point exceeding 180°C, Hawk PowerSports R remains liquid at temperatures at which a standard cooling fluid may begin to generate vapor. This helps keep the cooling fluid in contact with hot metal surfaces and maintains more uniform heat transfer when the engine is under heavy load.

The absence of water also helps reduce other phenomena associated with it: oxidation corrosion, cavitation, and high vapor pressure. Hawk specifically claims a vapor pressure that is 75% lower and a 75% reduction in cavitation erosion compared to water-based fluids.

A particularly valuable benefit for a sport bike

On a sport or racing motorcycle, reduced cavitation is particularly beneficial for the cooling system and the water pump. Hawk states that its water-free coolants help combat cavitation erosion that can affect cooling system components.

The low vapor pressure also helps reduce stress on hoses, gaskets, and cooling system components. This feature is especially beneficial when the engine runs at high temperatures for extended periods, such as during intensive use or on the track.

A slightly higher engine temperature may be normal

After switching to a Hawk waterless cooling fluid, the displayed operating temperature may rise slightly. An increase of approximately 3 to 7°C may be observed after the switch.

This difference does not necessarily mean the engine is overheating. The fluid remains liquid at high temperatures and helps limit vapor formation and localized hot spots.

Evans PowerSports R Becomes Hawk PowerSports R

Evans Waterless Coolants is now known as Hawk Waterless Coolants. This change pertains to the brand identity and not the product formulation. The former Evans PowerSports R is now marketed under the name Hawk PowerSports R. If you were already using this Evans formulation in your motorcycle, you will now find it under the Hawk brand.

GT2i is an official retailer of the Hawk Waterless Coolants brand. At GT2i, you’ll find Hawk waterless cooling fluids as well as the products needed to prepare and convert your cooling system.

How do you convert a motorcycle to Hawk PowerSports R waterless cooling fluid?

When converting from a standard cooling fluid, start by thoroughly draining the system, then prepare it using Prep Fluid. This step helps remove as much of the water remaining in the engine and system as possible after draining.

Use the 5L Prep Fluid before the final fill. After conversion, the residual water content should ideally remain at or below 3%. It can be checked using a refractometer.

Once the system has been properly prepared, Hawk PowerSports R can be used undiluted with water. Fill the system to the same level as you would with standard cooling fluid.

Hawk PowerSports R must never be intentionally diluted with water. Adding water reduces the benefits intended with a waterless cooling fluid.
