Hawk Power Cool 180° Waterless Cooling Fluid 2L
The Hawk Power Cool 180° 2L waterless cooling fluid is designed for sports cars, tuned vehicles, race cars, and high-performance engines. Its formulation is suitable for engines containing components made of cast iron, copper, steel, and aluminum.
Unlike ordinary cooling fluid, Hawk Power Cool 180° operates without water. Its boiling point, which exceeds 180°C, significantly limits vapor formation in the hottest areas of the engine. The absence of water also helps prevent oxidation-induced corrosion and reduces cavitation.
The 2-liter container makes it easier to adjust the quantity of fluid to the system’s volume. In particular, it can be used to top off multiple containers when filling an engine that requires an intermediate capacity.
Benefits of Hawk Power Cool 180° cooling fluid
- Designed for high-performance engines: developed for sports cars, tuned vehicles, and racing applications.
- Water-free operation: eliminates issues directly associated with the presence of water in the cooling system.
- Boiling point above 180°C: significantly reduces localized boiling and vapor formation when the engine is under heavy load.
- Freezing point below -40°C: no additional antifreeze is required.
- 75% lower vapor pressure: Hawk reports a vapor pressure significantly lower than that of water-based fluids, reducing stress on hoses, gaskets, and cooling system components.
- Reduced cavitation erosion: Hawk claims a 75% reduction compared to water-based cooling fluids.
- Corrosion protection: According to Hawk, the absence of water eliminates oxidative corrosion.
- Minimized hot spots: Reduced vapor formation helps keep the fluid in contact with metal surfaces under high thermal stress.
- Cooling system protection: Reduced vapor pressure and cavitation help preserve hoses, gaskets, and various system components.
- Extremely long operating time: Hawk reports proven use for over 20 years and one million miles without the need for replacement.
- Non-toxic and biodegradable: Hawk states that Power Cool 180° has been tested and certified as non-toxic, is biodegradable, and does not bioaccumulate.
Important: The cooling system must be prepared before refilling
Hawk Power Cool 180° should not simply be poured into a system that has just been drained. If the engine contains or has contained a water-based cooling fluid, preliminary preparation is necessary.
This is because a standard drain may leave water in the engine block, cylinder head, radiator, heater, or certain pipes. This residual water must be removed as much as possible to preserve the benefits of waterless operation.
The conversion must therefore be performed using the Prep Fluid 5L preparation fluid before the final fill with Hawk Power Cool 180°.
After conversion, the residual water content should ideally be 3% or less. It can be checked using a refractometer.

Why use a waterless cooling fluid in a high-performance car?
Sports, tuned, and race-spec engines can subject their cooling systems to particularly high thermal stresses. Certain areas of the cylinder head and engine can reach temperatures at which a standard cooling fluid begins to vaporize locally.
When vapor locks form, the coolant is no longer in direct contact with certain metal surfaces. Heat transfer then becomes less efficient, and localized hot spots can develop. These conditions can lead to overheating, which may contribute to cylinder head gasket failure.
Hawk Power Cool 180° has a boiling point above 180°C. Its ability to remain liquid at very high temperatures significantly limits vapor formation and maintains more uniform contact between the coolant and the engine’s metal surfaces.
The absence of water also offers other benefits for a heavily loaded engine: reduced oxidation corrosion, drop in cavitation, and lower vapor pressure in the system.
Lower pressure to reduce stress on the system
Hawk reports that Power Cool 180° generates 75% less vapor pressure than a water-based cooling fluid. This low pressure reduces the stress on hoses, gaskets, and various components of the cooling system.
At the same time, reduced cavitation helps protect components exposed to fluid flow, particularly the water pump.
Evans Power Cool Becomes Hawk Power Cool
Evans Waterless Cooling Fluid is now known as Hawk Waterless Cooling Fluid. The former Evans Power Cool 180° waterless cooling fluid is now marketed under the name Hawk Power Cool 180°.
This is a rebranding; the product formulation remains unchanged. Users already familiar with Evans Power Cool 180° will therefore find this same formulation under the new Hawk brand.
GT2i is an official retailer of Hawk Waterless Coolants and offers waterless coolants as well as the products needed to prepare the cooling system.
How do you switch to Hawk Power Cool 180°?
Start by draining as much of the old cooling fluid as possible. The cooling system must then be flushed with Prep Fluid to remove any water remaining in the engine after this initial drain.
Use the 5L Prep Fluid to perform this preparation. The Prep Fluid must then be drained before the final fill with Hawk Power Cool 180°.
Once the conversion is properly completed, Power Cool 180° can be used undiluted with water. Never intentionally add water to the product, as this will gradually negate the benefits of a waterless cooling system.
FAQ - Hawk Power Cool 180° 2L Waterless Cooling Fluid
For which vehicles is Hawk Power Cool 180° recommended?
Power Cool 180° is designed for high-performance engines. It is particularly suitable for sports cars, tuned vehicles, and race cars whose engines incorporate materials such as cast iron, copper, steel, and aluminum.
What is the purpose of the 2-liter container?
The 2-liter container allows you to precisely match the quantity of Power Cool 180° to the system’s capacity. It can be used on its own for a small volume or in combination with other containers to reach the quantity needed to completely fill the engine.
Why switch from a standard cooling fluid to a water-free cooling fluid?
Removing water reduces the phenomena associated with it: localized boiling, vapor formation, oxidative corrosion, pressure, and cavitation. These benefits are particularly valuable in a sports engine or one under heavy load.
Should Prep Fluid be used before Power Cool 180°?
Yes, when converting from a system that contains or has contained a water-based coolant. Simply draining the system may leave water in the engine. The 5L Prep Fluid ensures the system is properly prepared before the final fill.
What quantity of water can remain in the system?
After conversion, the residual water content should ideally be 3% or less. It can be checked with a refractometer.
Can Hawk Power Cool 180° be mixed with water?
Power Cool 180° must never be intentionally diluted with water. The presence of water gradually reduces the benefits intended with the water-free cooling fluid.
Can water be added in an emergency?
Yes, but only as a temporary measure when it is impossible to top off the water level with Hawk fluid. This solution must remain temporary. You must then drain the system and perform a complete system flush with Prep Fluid before returning to the waterless coolant.
Should antifreeze be added?
No. Hawk Power Cool 180° has a freezing point below -40°C. No additional antifreeze should be added.
Does Power Cool 180° protect against cavitation?
Yes. Hawk claims a 75% reduction in cavitation erosion compared to water-based cooling fluids.
How long can Hawk Power Cool 180° remain in the engine?
Hawk states that Power Cool 180° has a proven service life of over 20 years and one million miles without replacement. Of course, the fluid must be used properly and not contaminated with water.
Are Evans Power Cool 180° and Hawk Power Cool 180° the same product?
Yes. Evans Waterless Coolants has become Hawk Waterless Coolants. The former Evans Power Cool 180° is now called Hawk Power Cool 180°. The formulation remains unchanged.
