Back to Home pageGiroDisc Racing Brakes & Technologies is an American manufacturer specializing in high-performance brake discs for sports cars, GTs, supercars, and race cars. Designed and manufactured in the United States using American-sourced materials, GiroDisc’s two-piece aluminum-cored brake discs are engineered to reduce unsprung mass, improve cooling, and withstand the demands of repeated braking on the track.
The brand specializes in floating brake discs, aftermarket brake discs, and conversion kits for switching from carbon-ceramic brakes to metal brake discs. These solutions are particularly aimed at owners of Porsche, BMW M, Audi RS, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and other compatible sports cars seeking a braking system suited for track days and intensive use.
Unlike a traditional monoblock brake disc, a two-piece GiroDisc brake disc combines a cast-iron braking surface with a central 6061-T6 aluminum hub. The two components are assembled using a floating mounting system that allows for some freedom of movement between the braking surface and the hub.
This design accommodates the thermal expansion of the disc during periods of high heat buildup. The floating mounting also helps center the braking surface between the brake pads, while limiting the mechanical stresses caused by differences in thermal expansion between the materials.
The aluminum hub replaces the heavier central section of a monoblock cast-iron disc. Depending on the application, this design reduces the disc’s weight, unsprung mass, and rotational inertia—parameters that are critical to suspension behavior and vehicle dynamics.
GiroDisc high-performance brake discs use cast iron brake surfaces that meet specifications derived from motorsports. Their internal ventilation relies on curved fins that promote airflow from the center toward the outer edge of the brake disc.
This ventilation system helps dissipate the heat generated during intense braking and improves the brake disc’s cooling capacity. The grooved brake surfaces also help clean the pad areas and remove contaminants from the friction interface.
This design is particularly well-suited for sports cars used on racetracks, track days, and in racing applications, where repeated braking requires rigorous temperature management.
One of the main advantages of the two-piece GiroDisc brake discs is the ability to replace only the worn brake pads without having to replace the entire brake disc every time.
GiroDisc replacement brake pads—also known as rotors or brake discs—allow you to keep the aluminum hubs already installed, provided they are in good condition and the manufacturer’s recommendations are followed. This modular design simplifies maintenance and allows you to replace the friction surfaces without unnecessarily replacing reusable components.
When selecting pads , ensure they match the GiroDisc part number, diameter, thickness, mounting orientation, and mounting system corresponding to the existing rotors.
GiroDisc also develops carbon-ceramic-to-steel conversion kits designed to replace the original carbon-ceramic brake discs on certain sports cars and supercars.
These conversions allow for a switch from a system equipped with carbon-ceramic discs to floating discs mounted on aluminum hubs with cast-iron pads. They offer a particularly attractive alternative for vehicles regularly driven on the track, especially given the high cost of replacing carbon-ceramic discs and the ability to replace only the GiroDisc pads.
Depending on the application, the original brake calipers can be retained. However, the conversion requires verifying the brake disc sizes, checking for any necessary mounting modifications, and, most importantly, ensuring the compatibility of the brake pads with the cast-iron tracks. Brake pads designed for carbon-ceramic discs should not be assumed to be automatically compatible.
GiroDisc brake discs are designed for numerous high-performance automotive applications, including the Porsche 911, Cayman, and Boxster; BMW M; Audi RS; Ferrari; Lamborghini; McLaren; and Subaru, depending on available models and part numbers.
Available configurations may include front and rear rotors on aluminum hubs, replacement pads, and specific carbon-ceramic conversion kits. Some part numbers are direct replacements for the original rotors while retaining the existing calipers, while others require adapted mounting components.
GiroDisc combines two-piece brake disc technology, floating mounting, aluminum hubs, and replaceable pads to offer high-performance braking solutions tailored to the demands of sports cars, supercars, and track driving.
