Rally or drift driving requires intensive use of the handbrake, which can indicate the weaknesses of standard cable handbrakes. The hydraulic system eliminates these weaknesses in the same way as standard cable handbrakes.

The hydraulic system connects to the brake line that connects the rear calipers and requires much less force to fully lock both rear wheels when needed. Drivers use a hydraulic handbrake to lock the rear wheels when they want to drift the car sideways or turn on the spot. Rally drivers regularly have to turn 180 degrees on the spot when crossing an intersection, or have to turn hard left or right, and locking the wheels is insufficient to achieve this.
The hydraulic handbrake is not used to stop the car.
