Flexigauge AG-1 pack Green (ACL-AG-1)

The Flexigauge is a plastic measuring tool used mainly in mechanical workshops to check the clearance between engine components, in particular crankshaft bearings and connecting rods. This tool can be used to measure the gap between two surfaces without having to completely dismantle an engine or other mechanical parts.

AG-1 - (RG-1) (Green Pack) 0.001 - 0.003in or 0.025 - 0.076mm

This Flexigauge kit is also available in the following versions:

- ACL-AB-1: Blue Pack / Covers a clearance of : 0.004in - 0.009in or 0.120mm - 0.229mm

- ACL-AR-1: Red pack / Covers a clearance of : 0.002 - 0.006in or 0.051 - 0.152mm

- ACL-AY-1: Yellow pack / Covers a clearance of: 0.008 - 0.016 inches or 0.203 - 0.406 mm

Connecting rod and main bearing clearances should be measured on the least worn area of the kingpins. Main bearing checks should be carried out with the adjacent crank pin positioned approximately 30 degrees past bottom dead centre.

Instructions for use

1) Remove the bearing hood us bonnet, then carefully wipe the kingpin and bearing shell to remove all traces of oil.

2) Then seat a piece of Flexigauge on the bearing at the crown.

3) Replace the bearing hood us bonnet and tighten the bolts with a torque spanner to the recommended torque. Caution: do not rotate the shaft or bearings.

4) Then remove the bearing hood us bonnet: the Flexigauge will remain attached to either the bearing or the shaft.

5) Compare the width of the flattened gauge with the scale on the carcass. The number inside the scale indicates the clearance, in thousandths of an inch or millimetres, depending on which side of the carcass is used.

6) A taper is detected when the Flexigauge is wider at one end than the other, the difference between the readings indicating the amount of taper. The widest section of the gauge represents the area with the least clearance. If the Flexigauge is wider at the centre of the bearing, this indicates ‘churning’ of the shaft.
